Can Groundhogs Climb Trees?

050_Groundhog_Climbs_Tree

Yep, they can!

Yep, groundhogs can climb trees! This marmot scrambled up the nearest tree to escape Shadow, Randy and Diane Wingett's pet dog, who had been digging frantically at the entrance of the groundhog's den along the bank of the seasonal stream. Precariously perched on this skinny tree limb just 15 feet above the ground, keeping as still as possible, the terrified critter remained for half a day and into the night, then in the early morning hours when people and canine were sound asleep, it made its escape.
