Young Fawn in Meadow

Young Fawn in Meadow

Exhausted but uninjured, this young fawn had collapsed in the meadow near the Wingett's mini-barn after being chased through the woods and into the stream by Shadow, the Wingett's pet dog.

The silence of the upper pine woods was suddenly broken by desperate baahs and excited barks. Randy, who was clearing branches nearby rushed to investigate, finding Shadow standing over a young fawn that was lying in shallow, Fox Run waters. Trapped between a frantic canine and a vertical stream bank, Randy rescued the terrified baby deer, scooping it up and carrying it in his arms out of the stream, down the mowed path and out into the open meadow. Its little heart pounding rapidly, the fawn did not resist the human ride at first; then sensing freedom, it leaped out of Randy's arms, ran a short distance on awkwardly long legs and collapsed in the tall grass. Randy secured Shadow in the dog kennel then went to get Diane so she could witness this unusual visit by a sweet little fawn.
