Praying Mantis Couple
| While pruning Butterfly Bushes by the pond, Diane Wingett discovered several large Praying Mantis in the foliage, their brown and green colors a near-perfect camouflage. When Diane noticed this pair of Praying Mantis getting intimate, she couldn't resist capturing the moment. Fortunately, Diane did not observe the female biting off the head of the male, which is common among mantises in captivity. (Photo by Diane Wingett, October 11, 2009) |
